It is not a typical tapas bar , thats clear when you try their delicious tapas and high quality gourmet dishes with impeccable presentation. That is “El Bar”, a place that is written in quotation marks to take elements of traditional bar, add the closeness and format of tapas, and mix them with the comfort, service and quality of a good restaurant.
Sergi Giménez has been in charge since they opened in 2013. This well-known sommelier decided to open this space with avant-garde cuisine, an exquisite wine list and 10 out of 10 service, where every detail matters when it comes to serving the customer.
As you enter you’re immediately greeted with open arms and a welcoming atmosphere. Another detail that makes all the difference at this restaurant is that after the meal, you have option to choose between a careful and varied selection of European cheeses.
Ramón del Río is the current Chef in charge of the cuisine of “El Bar”. Sergi tells us that he had been trying to sign him for several months, until he happily convinced him to take over the kitchen a little over 6 months ago. He came and revolutionized the menu with dishes full of flavor thanks to his experience and Latin American origin.
The first thing that comes to our table is a delicious cherry gazpacho with mascarpone and yogurt with nacarii caviar. A dish of subtle flavor, intense color and a spectacular presentation.
We continue with one of our favorite dishes of the evening, Octopus a feira style “El Bar”, with violet potato and Galician chorizo. A unique blend of Mediterranean and Andean flavors to view and to taste.
Another detail that draws our attention is Sergi’s recommendations of wine pairings. It is a great experience and the exquisite palate is noteworthy, the wines with which we accompany each dish are perfect.
A ceviche full of color approaches the table, a scallop with pomegranate and yellow chili pepper, of citric flavor, sweet and at the same time spicy; An explosion of flavor. Then they surprise us with one of the star dishes, an exquisite boneless ox tail with creamy potato and vanilla, a dish that plays with textures and color.
And finally, a sweet treat, with drunken rum with passion fruit and vanilla ice cream. Soft and delicate, perfect for closing the experience with gold clasp.
One thing to keep in mind is the availability of a private room with capacity for 30 people, where it is possible to enjoy a private dinner in an intimate and cozy atmosphere.
If you like different proposals, focused on the product and the presentation, then go for a walk around “El Bar”. It is sure to surprise you as much as it did us!
