When Israeli chef Shira Ben Shitrit opened her restaurant in Barcelona, she knew exactly what she wanted to cook for her customers: her favourite dish, meatballs. “Every country has their meatball and here we prepare them in all kinds of ways so that the customer, no matter where they’re from, can enjoy familiar home cooking,” she explains.
Choose what you want: chicken with bacon and grilled pineapple with lime sauce and cilantro; traditional beef with tomato sauce, peppers and brie cheese; pork with zucchini, mint and soya sauce; shrimp with fresh hummus and spicy tomato salad; chickpeas with salad and sesame sauce; sweet potato stuffed with mushrooms and apple salad; premium steak with grilled foie, red wine reduction and figs; or go for the ball of the day prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
After choosing what you want, choose how you want it: as a main dish, in a pita or as tapas; and finally, decide what you want to accompany your meatballs with – bulgur, noodles, baked potatoes and cauliflower salad are just a few of the delicious options.
A Tu Bola is a small, cozy restaurant where you can see Shira in her open kitchen in the middle, like a DJ quickly preparing each order to be eaten there or taken away. As for dessert, the chocolate with nuts is the perfect ball to end on.
