As soon as you step inside Carlota Akaneya, you’re sure to be impressed – the lights, iron walls and wooden tables create an ambiance that guarantees a perfect evening out. The attentive serving staff lead you to your table and the show begins. Sip on a Sake Sangria with pineapple and ginger and witness your dinner come together as the ingredients are cooked to perfection before you.
Felipe and Ignasi are friends and business partners who began this project after a trip to Kyoto. While there they ate dinner for four consecutive nights at a restaurant called Akaneya Junshinken, and the place made such an impression they carefully categorized the space, took photos and recreated it in Barcelona. The name pays tribute to this source of inspiration, as well as Felipe’s mother Carlota.
There are two tasting menus to choose from and both will leave you satisfied. After preparing the coals and sweetening the smell of the room with rosemary, we are served excellent miso soup, the seafood of the day, gyoza and a small pan with duck broth and thick noodles called kamo mamban.
Once your stomach is warmed up, Natsumi brings you the highlight of the night: Wagyu, Kobe beef imported from Chile. After trying five different cuts and feeling them all melt in your mouth, it’s impossible to say which you like best, but it’s certain you’ll want to try them all again soon. For tonight though, the meal is coming to an end just as it should – dessert, Japanese style. Homemade mochi or green tea tiramisu are the cherry on top of an amazing experience that foodies everywhere ought to indulge in.
