María began her career as a waitress at the Cosmo cafe on Enrique Granados Street. Eventually, with owners Regina y Tomás, María branched out to create the Cosmo’s younger brother: Cometa.
A former clothing store on the corner of Parlament Street is now home to a gastronomic dream. Plants and animal prints and nature cover every inch of Cometa. “At first the neighbors viewed our cafe as strange and out of place, until the first brave customers approached and asked for coffee,” María explains nostalgically while she serves a slice of their famous carrot cake and a frothy latte.
There is no bad time to visit Cometa. You can start your day with the “Munch” menu, offered until 1 p.m. and featuring toasts, croissants, juices and lemonade; or you can have lunch, dinner, or even stop in for a drink in the evening. We would recommend the homemade muesli with yogurt, beetroot hummus, or a sandwich with tomato, chicken, avocado and lettuce. And, be sure to end any meal with a homemade piece of carrot cake and a cold infused coffee.
