Cornelia was a Roman matron known for her people skills and hospitality towards guests. In the heart of Valencia Street is Cornelia & CO; a restaurant, tea room, grocery store, deli, dairy and bakery where you can find temptations hidden in each of its corners. On the shelves of the store is everything that you would want in your kitchen: fine canned goods and preserves, gourmet jams, pasta Bartolini, all types of teas and an infinite wine selection.
Here you will find tapas (fried eggplant with honey, exquisite grilled Galician octopus, shrimp tempura), fresh pasta made daily in their kitchen (spinach ravioli stuffed with ricotta, raisins, pine nuts and sage butter, spaghetti with meat sauce, bacon and chianti), rice (with sausage and mushrooms or crayfish and fresh clams), organic meat from the Catalonian Pyrenees (beef carpaccio with arugula and parmesan, juicy burgers with gorgonzola sauce), fish (highly recommended Norwegian salmon tartar with guacamole) and even homemade pizzas (with burrata, mascarpone, bresaola, arugula and fresh tomato).
The alma mater is Carla Cornelia Tarruella, artist-entrepreneur, and that’s something you notice. Variegated chairs and original collages are her handiwork, as well as some of the works hanging on the walls of this vast space. All of this adds an arty touch that tends to draw in the ladies that go to tea in the afternoon, people catching up with friends, families and dog owners. Yes, here the educated dogs are welcome.
