Dr. Zhang is a restaurant that offers a culinary internal tour of their dumplings. There have been many a time where people have wondered what is a dumpling, what is it made of and what does the name “dumpling” come from. Many of our questions were answered when the chef of this establishment helped explain; she said that in Asia a dumpling is any type of elaboration that is made by dough and stuffed inside.
The doctor Zhang Zhong Jing, who provided them the name of this restaurant, is who attributed to the creation of this plate. They say that this doctor after much time observing those who lacked a place to stay during the winter, had no food and had frozen ears, he decided to elaborate food for people with medicinal purposes. He then cooked a fine dough of rice and stuffed the creation with lamb, aji, different herbs, and elements that contribute to warm the body in general.
In China the tradition of consuming dumplings in winter remains, being a symbol of warmth and home. Because of Dr. Zhang, these cozy traditions have been transported to the city of Barcelona. This is a restaurant that offers all types of different doughs as the wrappers of the dumplings. They also provide an assortment of stuff to be stuffed inside the dough: meat, mushrooms, vegetables, sweets, and grilled or steamed.
The cook learned to properly elaborate the creation while in Asia, where they decided to bring the original process but modifying the interior. They wanted to cook their dumplings with their own original and truly delicious stuffing so that the customer can distinguish and taste each and every one of the ingredients.
By offering a large majority of just dumplings, it could be seen as repetitive but this is cannot be farther from reality. They made a menu with a variety of options that are even fun and hard to not enjoy. Being in this restaurant, you cannot leave without trying the excellent variety of dumplings such as mushroom, duck, pumpkin, and eggplant; an authentic delight for the pallets. Along with these plates are delicious desserts that were adapted from traditional flavors such as apple tart, but with a completely unique format, being of course… dumplings!
This is a dumpling bar that constitutes a total culinary odyssey.
