One of the recent strong points in Madrid is the revamping and restoring of popular places. As a result, a new generation is now in charge of maintaining these places to keep that same essence we have loved our whole lives. El Brillante is no doubt one of the restaurants most representative of traditional Madrid cooking; we at Plateselector respect you, El Brillante. The calamari sandwich is undoubtedly an attraction in Madrid as much as Retiro park and the Reina Sofia. At El Brillante they assure you that they have the best calamari sandwich in the city, and we believe it. The bartender Jesus boasts, “The sandwiches are so good because we treat them like we treat women”. The breadcrumbs are crunchy and juicy, and absolutely excellent. When it comes to bread, you can choose many different types and sizes such as: baguette, half baguette, ciabatta, or traditional bread. All made there that day. Other house favorites include the patatas bravas (roasted potatoes with spicy sauce), grilled pork ear, Gallician squid, and the Spanish tortilla (Spanish quiche). Located right next to the Reina Sofia museum, this restaurant proves that their popularity and success are well deserved.
