Walk through the center of the city, through the winding streets of L’Eixample district, and you will stumble upon a beautiful little house on Mallorca Street. The joint project of Enric Millà and head chef Gerard Sans, El Mercader De L’Eixample brings traditional Catalan cuisine to Barcelona.
The kitchen focuses on agricultural sustainability, only using local and seasonal ingredients in addition to sustainable fish farming practices.
The menu is divided into three sections. The first is the “pecking bar of Mercader” with weekly specials. The second menu is “The Mercader Classics”, which maintains plates that are available all year round. Finally, the third menu describes “Sugerencias de temporada”, or seasonal dishes. In order to create and maintain these local and sustainable menus, El Mercader keeps it’s own garden in Collserola Park. The vegetables grown here are the same ones used each day in the restaurant.
Delicious, local and sustainable perfectly describe the concept at El Mercader De L’Eixample.
