Found along Calle de la Bola, close to the Royal Palace, Oriente Plaza and the Senate, El Mollete is a family business that’s been open for thirty years. It is a place that you can return to time and again, and remains a favourite among those who know the city like the palm of their hand.
Checkered tablecloths and sitting shoulder to shoulder (literally) with your neighbours add to the charm of this place. Tomás, the owner, greets you, seats you, takes your order and serves you. He even feels free to take a seat and listen to your comments on the dinner, or better yet on life in general. His wife Úrsula is the only person in the kitchen and she prepares the homemade dishes that are simple yet delicious. The menu hasn’t changed over the years and you’re sure to find dishes that have been with them since they opened.
Tomás reads the suggestions of the day and they’re sure to be a hit as they’re prepared with the freshest ingredients from the market that day. Same with the menu of the day – made with fresh and seasonal ingredients, both are perfect to pair with a homemade dessert.
Like anything that seems too good to be true, there’s a catch: a reservation is essential. The place is tiny and its popularity definitely exceeds its capacity. You’ve been warned!
