“La Boqueria market is the best in Europe and I am extremely fortunate to have a bar here. We do not have stock, but who needs it when you have direct access to fresh and top quality products everyday?” explains Quim Márquez, chef of the landmark bar in the old market in the city center where he has been serving meals since 1987.
It’s no wonder that the logo of Quim is a fried egg; after dining here, one can tell Quim’s dedication. “I am a devotee of eggs by conviction; as a child, my mother used to prepare them like crazy.” As his menu reads, “start the day with a couple of eggs” and combine them with llangueta (a beyond-must-have type of squid), assorted mushrooms, prawns in cava, Per Sé of Riofrio caviar, caramelized ham or foie gras.
This is just the beginning. Quim also has extremely enticing daily specials, depending on what is fresh and seasonal, mouth watering delicacies like bluefin tuna with cherry tomato and snow peas, oxtail risotto, Carnaroli rice and authentic parmesan reggiano, or the Wagyu beef.
Each dish should be accompanied with cava, and if still hungry, followed by tiramisu or the egg custard.
Someone once said: “If the unicorn existed it would be sold at the Boqueria” … and it would be served in the Quim.
