Located in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, do not be fooled by its tourist location, because in Enkel its main value is to maintain an honest kitchen and respect the quality-price of its dishes. Chef Gustavo, along with Francis and Fabio, are in charge of ensuring that all the dishes that come out of the kitchen have their approval, “we are not going to serve anything that we have not tried and loved ourselves first,” says Francis.
Enkel, which means grandson in German, is the descendant of his grandmother Oma Bistró, who also lives in Barcelona. Hence his name and his logo, a symbol that recalls the appearance of a child. After experience with a restaurant in Venezuela and having experimented with coffee in London, more than a year ago they decided to move to Barcelona to start a new project of modern European cuisine.
Contemporary food mixes dishes from Latin America and America to the Mediterranean, the East or even Asia. It offers varied cuisine that plays with the dishes and mixes cultures in the same place; So if you want to explore the gastronomy of the world, Enkel is your place. The grilled octopus, marinated in a spicy Peruvian sauce and with a layer of roasted potatoes and smoked tiger milk, is their specialty. The Shakshuka eggs with a sofrito, Greek yogurt, avocado and accompanied with a bit of bread, is one of his most amazing dishes.
They have two menus according to the time of day: Enkel by Day and Enkel by Night. The day menu offers dishes such as their blueberry pancakes with mascarpone and toasted almonds. At night, it offers standout items like the Eggplant glazed with ginger and miso, Greek yogurt with a touch of oregano, pistachio and pint as well as a Rissotto with vegetables and nuts.
Eat everything at a good price in Enkel and you can also accompany your dishes with a selection of special drinks such as coffee, orange and elderflower tonic or a “Kiwito” a Mojito made with Kiwi. Among the desserts we suggest the apple crumble with black tonka ice cream and saffron Panacotta with candied oranges. An authentic delight!
