It is true that, despite its recent opening, there has already been several Saturdays that Fat Barbies is completely full, this being a clear sign of the gastronomic quality behind its doors. However, measuring it only with this variable is not enough. This place deserves to be discussed further, analyzing the other factors that make it what it really is: a gastronomic phenomenon.
Fat Barbies revolves around a solid and strong concept: fire, smoke and flames . Once you pass through the door and enter, Fat Barbies introduces you to their world. Like firewood, almost without choice, you are thrown into their delicious flames.
This new restaurant gives off creative sparkles with endearing aromas. As the occasioned fruit of his own name: “Fat Barbies”: irony made genius. The social prototype of doll “Barbie” distorted with the name of a barbecue restaurant, gives rise to questions in more than one head. Although in reality, this funny irony is simply the colloquial translation of “barbecue” in English … a fact that makes it even more interesting.
Their food follows the slow food philosophy , that is – long cooking times at low temperatures. Cooking that is only finished when the meat is completely separated from the bone, and the rib comes completely off in ones hand. Fat Barbies meats are not hurried – and that is what makes them the best.
When one thinks about barbecue, a scarce number of people would think directly of onions or carrots. However, the main protagonists of this groundbreaking restaurant are meat and vegetables, so it is a barbecue also suitable for vegetarians.
The concept is not only present in the food, but in everything that the restaurant is. The whole place is its own design : the grill was perfectly designed to adapt to the needs of the restaurant. The logo is incredibly original, for the banks it was a carpenter, as well as for the stools a blacksmith who worked his magic , all under the will and imagination of the brothers who run this place.
Grill based cooking that is focused on local, quality products : Carrots with mole and pumpkin, salad of canons and tender onions, potato baked with crême fraîche and sobrasada, cabbage with spicy tomatina, ribs, pickles, countless kombuchas, pickled mustard, smore flambéado at the moment on the table as a finishing room … But it is clear that reading about it is not the same as testing it. Come in, and judge it yourself – your expectations will almost certainly be met, if not overcome.
