Nowhere in Barcelona is more emblematic and iconic than Flash Flash. After 44 years, it remains as good as when it first opened.
In 1969 Alfonso Milá and Leopoldo Pomés, frustrated by finishing a long work day and having nowhere to eat, decided to open a restaurant with excellent food and service that was open from 1pm-1:30am without interruption – closing only once a year on Christmas Day.
Flash Flash specializes in omelettes, with more than 50 featured in its menu. There’s everything you can imagine in an omelette, and you can even choose from several sweet options for dessert.
Apart from omelettes, they also specialize in hamburgers and were one of the first restaurants to feature them in Barcelona. The Flash Flash burger is thanks to Cecilia, Alfonso’s wife, who discovered it while studying in New York: “She visited a local restaurant non-stop, befriended the owner, and convinced him to teach her the recipe. She spent days learning how to cut the best piece of meat, eliminate any imperfections, and knead and dress it perfectly. Paul Newman told us it was the best burger of his life.” Other highlights include the Cadillac cheeseburger, the Monty and the Cecilia served on a toasted bun with mustard, mayonnaise and caramelized onions. The burgers are always served with potatoes, salad or delicious purée.
They also feature daily specials and a huge variety of freshly made salads.
Part of Barcelona’s history, hopefully Flash Flash remains the same for 44 more years to come.
