La Pulperia Florines is an evergreen Galician bar in Bilbao, where calendars and discolored photos cover each wall. How we like to discover these sites! Luis does not know how many years they have been open, ‘a lot’ is what he answers when asked. We have seen everything in this street, Calle San Francisco, how the neighborhood has changed … Luis says he has had a good time behind the bar, a witness of the exceptional transformation that has happened in this authentic area of the capital of Vizcaya.
Tradition and family, the simplicity and the relationship with the client, habitual and not, is what characterizes them. And it is that his menu, fits in a salt of Estrella Galicia. Cecina, lacón, peppers, homemade croquettes, empanada, zorza and, of course, octopus to fair to 12 euros the “medium” ration, medium Galicia style, or 24 € the large, only necessary if you gather more than four people.
Bread and wine, the unmistakable Ribeiro in white bowl. Tart of Santiago for dessert and homemade liqueur.
Let’s not forget to tell something important, whether you go by there with antojito, to take a fast Ribeiro, or as if it turns out that you’ve been wanting to force gluttony … Luis mounts in 20 seconds a cache under a good piece of octopus, with bread, that is, an octopus pintxo for 2,50.
Bilbao la Vieja, once again conquering us, the neighborhood of San Francisco, where Luis and Anuncia say they have lived one of the best stages of their life … that other Bilbao so far from Guggenheim.
