Upon entering Iki, you are submerged in an elegantly decorated restaurant in which ingredients of the highest quality are used. “When your product is good it’s best to give it prominence and not overload it with ingredients that can hide the taste,” notes Carlos Baisón, the local manager.
This gastronomic gamble is driven by Catalan designers Marta Romañá and Santi Sardà, both with a long history in the restaurant business, and an exceptional team in the kitchen made up of Javier Álvarez, Jordi Ahedo, Jaime Prestouza and Jakir Hussain.
The action of Iki takes place around a teppanyaki plate: an elaborate meal is made before your eyes, allowing direct and personal interaction between the diner and chef.
For those who want to enjoy the cooking live, Jaime’s excellent handling of the iron equipment will surprise you. His execution is perfect as he guides the ingredients among the fire.
Japanese style prawns or foie with port reduction are clear examples of products prepared in a minimalist fashion, with a fresh and exquisite taste. Other highlights include tenderloin with vegetables and three sauces (it’s impossible to choose just one) and squid with its ink vinaigrette and flying fish roe. And of course, we can’t forget the classic sushi and sashimi, once again executed perfectly.
When you have a Japanese craving, this restaurant will set you straight. Be sure to always finish your meal with a good drink of sake. Kanpai!
