La Gloria is a modern Andalusian tavern located on Calle Valverde, in the heart of Malasaña. When its owner, Sol Pérez-Fragero left the world of audiovisual production a year and a half ago, he thought the best way to keep doing what he loved most (eating fine cuisine), was to open a modern Andalusian tavern. Its 17 dishes are family recipes inspired by the region, such as salmorejo and flamenquines with all ingredients purchased locally in the neighborhood, not only ensuring the quality and freshness of the products, but also supporting the local businesses. The dishes on the menu, created by chef Ivan Burgos, cost less than 10 euros because he believes that we should all be able to eat and drink well regardless of our economic situation. This is also reflected in the price of drinks. Mixed drinks at 5 euros, draft beers at 1.40 and wines from 2 euros. As Sol is very friendly, La Gloria is a dog-friendly zone, “How can it not be if there are more dogs than kids in Malasaña?” says Sol. They also serve gluten-free food and beer, five menu items are suitable for vegans, which is a level of flexibility that can be hard to come by in Spain. Which can be seen in La Gloria’s wildly diverse clientele of actors, filmmakers, photographers and musicians. Need a sugar rush? Try the American style chocolate, carrot and cheese cakes. Another advantage of La Gloria is that you can hold meetings in the back room, which is decorated with antique doors and a beautiful mural by Isabel Fraga. Check out La Gloria with its rich oil, salt and “Sol de Córdoba” serving the hungry and thirsty Malasaña neighborhood.
