As the legend states, “Count Sandwich” would put succulent pieces of meat between two pieces of bread so he could keep playing cards without getting his fingers greasy. No one knows for sure if he invented the tradition, but to this day it still bears his name. In Spain, we are all about sandwiches, and the “Pepito de ternera” beef sandwich is an excellent example of this. Sofia Boixet is a Barcelona girl with Andalusian ancestry, and owner of La Pepita. Here they bring elegance and charm to the steak sandwich. The “pepita” comes in many varieties, including steak, salmon, blood sausage with apple, and the smoothest of all, foie gras. Usually the term gastropub does not apply to sandwiches, but in this case, we’ll make an exception. Along with the chef Sergi Andreu, Sofia makes some of the most affordable and tasty “pepitas” you have ever seen. Also recommended: Cecina carpaccio with alioli and black pepper, or the anchovies with “dulce de leche” sauce. At Pepita, you are in good hands.
