The legend in Barcelona of calling mixed, ham and pressed cheese sandwiches bikinis, comes from one of the most traditional dance halls of the city in the 50s, The Bikini Room. Here, the sandwich was served as a French Croque-Monsieur, in this way La Piña Bar decides to use the most emblematic dishes of Barcelona and open a small shop in Poble Sec, where bikinis are the main offer.
Selina and Jamie are the creators of this project, where everything has been thought out with great dedication, from the name La Piña, which comes from the Catalan phrase “fer pinya” that is used by the Castellers. This is a reference to the people that are united in the base of the Castell.
The bikinis are named after famous women. For example, Úrsula Andress of James bond is the most iconic bikini in history, followed by La Úrsula, the name that is thought of as the sexiest at this bar, made with Serrano ham, Gruyere cheese and truffle. The Queen is elaborated with a lot of dedication: ham, cheddar and tetilla cheese, being this one that gives form to the crown of the queen , that forms around the bread. There is also La Madre Teresa a vegan bikini made of smoked eggplant, vegan cheese, semi dry tomato and basil, a sandwich that will make you want to become a vegan to eat it forever.
This little place is full of surprises from Garage craft beers, organic La Festival wines, La Cherry specialty coffees and of course the Yellow Bakery mothers’ dough bikinis. La Piña is a new space where everyone can enjoy and “pineapple” with others.
