MAIANS
Maians is much much more than a tapas bar. This spot is right in the center of the neighborhood of Barceloneta, and has all the appeal of a beach bar with it’s friendly atmosphere and amazing food but stands out among most of the other bars in the area. In 2004 this location was opened by Indalecio Novis, son to a great chef. Together he and his father restored this antique bodega to its former glory, adhering to the original aesthetic and spirit, dating back to 1890. “I’m a bar guy, what I like the most is getting people drunk.” It is that type of declaration, that keeps us faithful, and keeps Maians a staple in the Barceloneta community. Literally everything there is divine. Start with the shrimp with brandy or the xato salad (a catalan favorite with romesco sauce and many types of fish). But the real claim to fame is the paella, choose from mixed, black rice, or the fideua. Everything they serve at Maians is very wallet-friendly, and is served in relatively small portions, so you can try EVERYTHING. If you want to impress some of your foreign friends, and show them the Spanish way of life, this is the place, and you can do it without breaking the bank.
