This Mexican restaurant is part of the Malpaso publishing house, which results in a relationship between food and culture.
Malpaso started as a publishing house in 2013 on 327 Deputacion Street and a few months ago it opened the doors of a restaurant on 59 Girona street, which is a few steps away. The restaurant is cozy and has the potential of both a social and cultural meeting point for the neighborhood as well as for the city.
The starters include tortilla soup with crunchy corn in a chicken broth with tomato and chile and tequila-flambeed muscles with green enchiladas.
“The guests can enjoy cultural and gastronomic activities in the restaurant, every month. From performances, workshops, artistic shows and expositions. There will even be inspiring talks by chefs, writers and people with great stories to tell,” the people at the publishing house told us. For example, there is a competition called “Duelos Picantes” (Spicy Duels), where 24 people participate in a food competition of super spicy enchiladas, and whoever can finish 3 rounds of enchiladas without water or bread is the winner.
Like any good Mexican kitchen, the restaurant serves tongue tacos, pork and fish. However, they go beyond the traditional dishes like the Moctezuma tuna, which is grilled and fried with spices, pico de gallo, avocado and mint sauce or the Texas style BBQ pork ribs.
“It is a meeting point to stimulate chats and the imagination. It is a stove to inspire ideas, paragraphs, pages and chapters that are narrated by the neighborhood. Morning, afternoon and night. In Malpaso it is always a good time to open up up your appetite with people that like to crack a book open. People who want to be surprised and enjoy life.”
