Italians do it better… when it comes to fashion design, performing and sweets at least. Well, maybe a Frenchman would debate it to the death, and with good reason. But when we are talking about this crispy, crunchy dough full of smooth ricotta mixed with chocolate sprinkles and crushed pistachios it makes it hard to remember those irresistible éclairs. But we aren’t here to compare and contrast pastries, we are here to talk about a little place situated just a few meters from the Santa Caterina Market, where they sell a carefully selected repertoire of Italy´s finest. They also serve a Lemon Pie that would make Tony Soprano blush, babas al Rum, sfogliatella filled with ricotta and orange. If you are feeling more salty than sweet, they have a wide selection of customizable bagels and antipasti imported from the Motherland. Please try the “porchetta” (pork filled with herbs), it’s a revelation! The place is small, attractive, and decorated in the tradition of the “Malenis” with old Italian liquor bottles complete with a jukebox. For 10€ go for the sandwich+beverage+dessert+coffee perfect for those in the area who would like a quick Italian lunch.
