Behind a small door that doesn’t reveal its interior to the public that passes through the streets of Poble Sec, is hidden a small oasis with Asian airs called Nomm.
Nomm is the Asian synonym of our “yum yum”, which is used to indicate that something is very rich and tasty. A word that certainly describes the experience of tasting the impressive fusion of Asian flavours offered by this restaurant.
The creator of the culinary concept of Nomm, which makes a tour of the most authentic and emblematic gastronomies of the Asian continent with a clear personal nod, is Peter Vivant, and Australian chef with a Cantonese mother and a father from Shanghai.
Peter came to Barcelona several years ago with the idea of meeting one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world at a gastronomic level. But to his surprise, and despite the large number of restaurants there, he noticed that there are few who really dare to present authentic dishes without falling into the “westernisation” of them. It was then that he detected an opportunity in the catering sector.
Nomm is divided into two environments, the bar that’s right at that entrance (or at the exit, however you see it) and the dining room, set with impressive and warm red lamps and a large tree in the middle that makes us feel as if we were in a restaurant in Hong Kong.
The first thing we do when we enter is sit at the long bar that welcomes us with a Dragon Kiss, a cocktail made with whiskey, lemon, chilli, ginger beer and basil, a fusion of flavours with a touch of flavour that gives us a glimpse that this will not be like any other night.
We started the tour of Asia with a house kimchi fermented for a month, with soft texture and intense flavour. A perfect Korean dish to prepare the palate for what follows.
We continue with a tuna tar tar with homemade kimchi mayonnaise and crispy noodles, a dish full of textures and a lot of flavour. Colourful navajas with black bean sauce, yuzu (Eastern citrus) and wasabi come to our table and a taste of umami envelops our mouths.
The dumplings of wagyu and foie gras is another of the menu’s must-haves that will captivate you with a unique blend of flavours, as well as the colorful and pungent Thai prawn ceviche and the crispy chicken karate (Japanese fried chicken). Intense and authentic dishes that transport you to Asia with every bite.
We want to stay forever, enjoying this feast of flavours, but our stomachs tell us it’s time for dessert. So we close the evening with a soft, creamy chocolate mousse with a touch of chili pepper.
A real delight for the palates of the world, who enjoy the authentic flavours and an energy-filled atmosphere that invites you to stay for long hours until you completely lose track of time.
