This tiny restaurant located on Upper Street has one of the best menu offerings in north London today.
Tom Oldroyd is a young and talented British chef that bets on the local product that he offers his customers, as well as a la carte options, a menu of European inspiration that changes daily and that takes advantage of the best local and seasonal products.
After a few years working as a chef for Polpo, which went from being a restaurant to becoming a group of restaurants in less than five years, Tom Oldroyd took a sabbatical and after that he opened his own restaurant in the Islington district, north of the capital.
With very careful interiors that make the most of the available space, neutral tones, many plants and a lot of elegance, it’s very easy to feel comfortable in Oldroyd.
Here, Tom and his team offer a menu of the day (Monday to Friday only), as well as a la carte dishes. There are two menu options, you can opt for two or three courses. Many of its dishes are inspired especially by Italy, France and Spain. The starters include options like sanguines orange salad and anchovies or callouts with romesco sauce and toasted almonds. It’s worth ordering the bread with the anchovy butter. Oldroyd and his team usually present three options for the main course, some examples are mackerel with pickled rhubarb and horseradish sauce, bull tail ragout with gnocchi and gremolata or malfatti with spinach and ricotta with artichokes.
The wine list is short, but decisive. It offers four or five options for reds and whites that very and are mainly from Italy, France and Spain, as well as some rosé and dessert wine. There is no need to order the whole bottle as you can order and of them to the glass. They also have non-alcoholic beverages, such as home-grown flower of Elder.
For desserts, some seasonal, there are options such as chocolate mousse and pear, almond and rhubarb tarts, or ice creams and sorbets.
