The essence of being in Spain has always been concentrated in the beach bars. For decades, these temples of drinks and snacks have attracted peasants and travelers around the globe. Over the years, some have disappeared due to continuous legislative sieges but others are maintained by renewing its foundations and adapting to the tastes of customers. Sometimes, with horrid results. Not the case at Pez Vela, an open snack bar which manages to combine the Barceloneta coastal environment with urban modernism. Surrounded by walls of wood taken from railway sleeper trains, we find tables accompanied by various Nordic design chairs and a kitchen built in a container exporting fresh fish daily, and fresh salads and paellas, what Pez Vela is famous for. If you’re in the mood to eat fish, you better bring help, one portion can sometimes be enough for three hungry pescaterians. The tasty rice dishes are made for a minimum of two people, as just like most beach bars. When it comes to celebrations, they have an adjacent room separated by a wall and open to the sea that can accommodate up to 35. From Friday to Sunday, you can stay till dusk, with a guest dj as your soundtrack.
