As soon as you enter you know that you are not just in any place, that the luminosity, elegance and quality that you perceive when passing through the door will be transferred, no doubt, to your dishes. We enter Rice Hofmann, located in the center of Barcelona where rice is honored as one of the essential products of Mediterranean cuisine. But it is not just any restaurant, Silvia Hofmann is in charge of the Hofmann group, an international gastronomic reference that has restaurants, among them the Hofmann Restaurant with a Michelin star, a pastry shop and one of the best catering schools.
The love and complicity between Silvia and her mother, the founder Mey Hofmann, was undoubted and when Silvia had the opportunity she decided to pay tribute to her with the opening of a restaurant specializing in Mey’s favorite dish: rice. “How can such a big feeling fit in a grain of rice?”, The first stanza of a poem by Manuel Ortiz, illustrates the feeling conveyed by the project, which focuses on quality Mediterranean cuisine using the best ingredients.
Among its rice menu we find from the brightest and syrupy dishes like the risotto of prawns and hot smoked juice to the dried ones, like it’s rice with sausages of the country or the rice of espardeñas, calçots and romesco. And although rice is the main ingredient around which everything revolves, there will be no shortage of meat and fish, sea and mountain appetizers, such as tomato tartar, king crab, cucumber and sage or the Steak tartare with potato rosti, mustard egg and ice cream; the dishes to chop, among which we highlight the cod croquettes with ajoarriero and pil pil or the black squid fritters.
And finally, taking into account that the Hofmann Pastry is one of the references of the sweet in Barcelona, it would be a sin to leave without trying any of their desserts, such as caramelized apple and vanilla bikini or the mouse of yogurt, with salty caramel sponge cake, red fruits and raspberry ice cream. Now it is time to sit down and enjoy the delights that Mediterranean cuisine offers us.
