Madrid wouldn’t be the same without its taverns, where memories have been made around bars and tables for centuries.
Traditional taverns continue to be successful today, thanks to their informal and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for sharing a snack along with draft beer or wine. Taberna Arzábal puts a modern twist on the classic concept and has found success in the neighbourhood of Retiro.
Álvaro Castellanos and Iván Morales began this project in 2009 with the vision of capturing the the simple atmosphere of a classic tavern but with a more sophisticated decor, elaborate dishes, and stupendous wine and champagne.
Arzábal’s menu changes with the seasons in order to guarantee freshness and quality. There are also some standard dishes like the Iberian ham croquettes with sheep’s milk, truffle rice and their house salad, which are guaranteed to please year round. Combined with a drink selection that includes about 70 champagne options and you’re set for an amazing evening.
Iván and Álvaro’s latest undertaking is the secret Club A, just around the corner from Taberna Arzábal. Club A offers privacy (no selfies allowed) along with a cocktail bar with 250 alcohols to mix, a menu similar to Taberna’s, a sushi bar and free snacks for only 300 euros a year. Club A makes luxury accessible to not just the rich and famous – so long as you have a reservation, of course.
