Nowadays there are a lot of (supposedly) Japanese restaurants, that serve large amounts of sushi and specialize in fusion sushi. But if you really want to enjoy genuinely traditional Japanese food, try Taoyaca – a restaurant in which we are instantly transported to original and true Asian luxury.
Miwa, after a long vacation throughout Spain, decided that she wanted to start her own business in Barcelona, especially after falling love with the fabulous weather. Said and done, she left her life in Japan, and entered this new and great adventure.
She was always linked to her native countries gastronomy, and was inspired by her personal vegetable garden.
Tokyo, the capital of the country of the rising sun, is known for its variety of fish, seafood and quality products, which is what Miwa wanted to bring to her restaurant. Here, she offers not only a meal, but an overview of her rich and extensive culture. Diners can also discover the techniques, the products, the commonly used foods and the process necessary create the final dish.
Its purpose is none other than to offer a wide variety of exclusive experiences with which to delight its visitors, with a lot of technique and unparalleled product quality.
With incredible culinary wealth, the ingredients and food are well taken care of – with the use of exotic flavors often completely unknown to us. While this restaurant serves some traditional Japanese dishes, like sushi, noodles, ramen and gyozas, it strays from the most typical dishes. Instead, it serves food that includes great nutrients for the body.
The letter starts with a description and a brief explanation of the most used and consumed foods, such as Mame (legumes), Goma (sesame), Wakame (seaweed), Yasai (vegetables), Sakana (Fish), Shiitake and Kinoko (mushrooms) ) and Imo (potatoes).
And with all this, you can let yourself be surprised by its tasting menu , where you can discover completely unknown flavors. For example, the Miso soup is made with not only fish broth, but also with prawn broth. Or you can try the grilled butter fish with soy sauce, accompanied by the 100% homemade sake.
In the menu we find some delicacies such as the Kinoko Shuumai – bags of mushrooms and steamed pork. The Nasu Dengaku, which is juicy Eggplant al Miso or Karate (a Japanese style fried chicken.) Obviously you must try the sushi, yes, done in a traditional way.
A great specialty of Tayoaca are the Niguiris, presented in 3 ways: one smoked, another flamed and one raw. With this you will experience three completely different textures, each piece prepared with ultimate care.
The perfect end to your meal is a fermented sake dish, along with green tea mochi.
So if you want to taste the authentic Japanese food that respects the canons of this not so distant gastronomy, you have to visit Taoyaca.
