There are many places where you can enjoy a good piece of cake, but few equate to that characteristic sweetness from our childhood. That feeling of belonging, that sense of yearning for the past. As children we all remember pressing our face against the glass of a bakery, hoping our mother will buy us that delicious cake that was calling our name.
Now we are just big kids longing to sweeten our days at one of the many great bakeries in Barcelona. Among all those cafes, pastry shops and small shops that are responsible for bringing out our childish sweet tooth, we have chosen our six favorites.
A small Argentinean coffee shop and bakery specializing in cakes and artisan cakes. A place with a certain charm and authentically classic pastries, with modern vibes and a menu that adapts to the needs of the market.
Here we can find everything from the traditional homemade cakes with gluten-free or vegan options, to the typical Argentinean empanadas. It even offers a lunch menu.
They whip up your chocolate cake with peanut butter cream, an option for vegans. Strata’s house cake is made with a base of chocolate sponge cake, vanilla, cream, strawberry and a layer of caramel. For the more daring, they do a super colorful Cheesecake.
A gastronomic space under the slogan “Heathy is the new Tasty“. A healthy restaurant that is consistently renewed with innovative dishes. Here you will find a Clean Eating kitchen that avoids sugars and processed flours thus preserving the nutrients and the flavor of its products.
Among the dessert selection our guilty pleasure is their raw-avocado vegan tarts and cheesecake. None of them are cooked, nor do they have eggs. The avocado cake includes a bed of almonds on the bottom with a touch of coconut oil, dates and a little cocoa. It is topped with avocado, agave, lime and coconut oil.
The vegan cheesecake, which obviously does not include cheese, has coconut oil, ginger cashews and red berries. Two exquisite desserts for all audiences.
A cafe with a family atmosphere, Nordic air and its own personality. The third variation of a large family of modern coffee shops specializing in pastries and sweets. The style is very similar to that of it’s brothers Cosmo or Cometa, although its location is far from similar. Located in the heart of Gran Vía, they are the favorite of many because of their wonderful homemade cakes.
The Carrot Cake creates passions and many addicts to the appetizing delicacy. We are one of them and this cake made with carrots, walnuts, vanilla and Butter Cream (butter, Philadelphia and glass sugar) and a touch of cinnamon characteristic of Orion; It drives us crazy.
We have all heard of the great Brunch & Cake family, famous for their reinvented brunch recipes and their healthy and well-cared for food. Cup & Cake is the hearty part of this line of restaurants, and our favorite certainly.
As lovers of sweet and pastries we find a great variety of them here in a diaphanous and modern space with touches of rustic wood and vintage furniture, that is characteristic of their personality.
Our ideal breakfast is a freshly prepared tropical juice and a piece of Red Velvet cake, made with cream cheese, crushed biscuit and beetroot that gives you that red color so representative.
The Xololatería of Oriol Balaguer
The pastry chef Oriol Balaguer is in charge of sweetening the emblematic neighborhood of el Born with this small cafe-pastry where the main ingredient is Chocolate. The second shop of a famous pastry chef in the city of Barcelona has a wide selection of delicate sweets.
We sample your lychee cake with touches of vanilla and coated in a layer of raspberry that gives it a unique flavor along with a texture that melts in your mouth. The desire of every pastry lover.
At Bubó, cakes are an art. This is a bakery par excellence of the city of Barcelona. Since 2005 they have satisfied the sweetest palates with their careful creations.
The shop window is an immense museum where we find colorful and edible works of art. A range of cakes and pastries for all tastes.
We chose four of them. Sputnik (chocolate mousse and with Macadamia streussel), Sablée (lemon cream with dried meringue of rosemary and almonds), Loreak Babylon (chocolate mousse with touches of saffron) and Brasilia (passion fruit mousse and orange) .
