We are regular at The Collective Cafe since we discovered them, a year ago, shortly after opening, and we came running to tell you about it.
We have not been able to stop visiting, and since then they have incorporated a lot of new things: They do not stop experimenting with vegan dishes that they offer in their menus of the day and they keep trying coffee roasters from all over the world and varieties of teas every month, but what has most excited us most is their VRUNCH proposal.
Brunch with V yes, meant to stand for Vegan. The Collective Cafe offers late breakfast or early food of the mind and hands of vegans, with vegan recipes, but not only for vegans.
The star of the show is the Sandwich Pulled Fruit, made with Jackfruit, which is nothing less than the fruit that beats a record, that of being the largest in the world. This mega fruit, which can weigh up to 35 kilos and measure almost one meter, is originally from Indonesia, but Silvia tells us that if you look well, you can find it in Lavapiés. Its texture is extremely fibrous, giving the possibility of treating it as if it were meat, pork, and baking with bbq sauce to obtain a stew that perfectly replaces the popular Pulled Pork. A muffin bread, very tender, coleslaw salad and a mix of homemade pickles complete the surprise, it is delicious.
Something simpler, but not neglected, is the other main dish, a scrambled tofu, with mushrooms, champi and homemade kimchi. To accompany any of these two dishes, a yogurt with homemade granola and seasonal candied fruit is perfect, and in our case, the pear and pomegranate.
A glass of natural juice and a good coffee or tea to choose between your long and specialized menu and if you are hungry, you can always add a portion of vegan cakes or biscuits.
The vrunch is served only on the weekend, of course, from 11 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. The price is 15 euros and the desire to come back will be present.
