Tragamar began 20 years ago with the idea of Rosa Esteva, founder of Grupo Tragaluz, who envisioned a “take away” restaurant especially for boats. Over time it became what it is today: a restaurant where you can enjoy Mediterranean food with your feet almost in the sea.
“We have always served Mediterranean cuisine, with a weekly menu in which we create more elaborate dishes with hints of other continents, like Asia. This is where you’ll find our famous Bhutan potatoes and our salmon tartar,” Raquel Tarruella, the owner, tells us. The ingredients come from nearby: the always fresh fish from Palamós, vegetables from Empordà and bread from Palafrugell.
The most popular dish is rice with consommé (arroces caldosos). Another standout dish is lobster rice and baked wild fish. “We are known for our fresh fish prepared in a simple way: baked and served with potatoes. We are also a restaurant where people order several mediterranean dishes to share among themselves: grilled sardines, clams, mussels, shrimp scampi…” says Raquel.
Raquel shares an anecdote with us from when Tragamar literally lived up to its name (tragar=to swallow, mar=sea): “It was December 26, 2008. The restaurant was open and customers were enjoying their meals when a wave came right into the back room! The people, far from afraid, took pictures and seemed to be enjoying it. We, of course, decided to evacuate. It’s the only time that the sea reached such a height; Canadell Beach is very calm, with no big waves.”
The best part is that you can always enjoy a beautiful view of the Mediterranean from the restaurant.
