Making a change in your diet can be hard to do. Approaching a vegan lifestyle isn’t easy, and a lot of the time the culinary options outside of your home aren’t exactly appealing. But don’t panic! Vega is aware that there are people – like their own chef – that simply want to eat differently from others.
Eating healthy and conscientiously doesn’t have to be at odds with taste. On the contrary – ethics with respect to animal abuse and sustainability can act as the springboard for discovering new flavours that escape our usual routine. Nico is the chef behind this newly opened restaurant, found close to Plaza de la Luna. As a strict vegan, he knows that there’s a need for more vegetarian and vegan options in Madrid. Along with José Salas, they decided to create a menu that’s suitable for those looking for organic and animal-free products. Their kitchen has also gained attention from omnivores whose only concern is delicious food: each of their dishes is delectable as well as healthy and animal friendly: mushroom croquettes, vegetable Thai curry, veggie burgers … their whole menu has become a top pick for neighbourhood residents in search of a beer and something to eat that’s tasty, good and cheap. For dessert, their soy cheesecake could fool any carnivore.
Activism and change is achieved one step at a time, and Vega makes it easy – even for those who don’t realize it.
