Carles returned from New York with the idea of embarking on the world of gastronomy, a passion that is already deep in his roots. His project, Xibarri, stems from the practices of his grandmother, father, and his Mediterranean Catalan culture. The restaurant’s casual and cosmopolitan atmosphere appeals to young foodies and art lovers alike and the experience provides an oasis of peace among the hustle and bustle of the city.
Locals and visitors can enjoy unforgettable breakfasts, lunches and dinners at the hands of chef Laia Julià. The day begins with “l’esmorzar català” or a traditional Catalan breakfast which includes freshly squeezed juices, pastries baked in a French-style oven, and sausages and local cheeses served with tomato on fresh bread. This guarantees an energetic start to any day.
The meals highlight the best parts of classic mediterranean eating. The “xatonada,” a cod nosed salad; the “coca de recapte” with onion, tomato and anchovy roasted peppers; and the chicken croquettes are a must. For a flavorful exploration of the Iberian peninsula, try dishes like the gratin macaroni, the Girona meatballs, the unbeatable Galician steak or monkfish tail from the Basque country. Finish your meal with fresh cottage cheese and honey or chocolate bread with oil and salt.
However, taste is not the only sense Xibarri appeals to. The interior was designed by Raquel Sogorb and the restaurant is garnished with fresh flowers daily. The roof of the hotel is home to a 360 degree terrace and swimming pool where you can experience the sunset view while listening to concerts and enjoying a cocktail.
