One of the most common crises of any urbanite is to find a place to eat when you’re hungover at three in the afternoon on a Sunday. In winter it doesn’t matter because the sofa is fine with a piece of pizza and The Sopranos box set. But what do you do when the sun is shining, and you wanna take a fresh dip in the Mediterranean?
Xup Xup is under the boardwalk of Barceloneta and has a terrace on the sand two meters from the shore, and is an ideal choice. The kitchen does not close and has a traditional Mediterranean and Andalusian menu with clams, meats, fish, and rice from the Ebro Delta. What belly, aching from last night’s festivities, could not benefit from a Cadaques fisherman soup, the classic seafood paella or surf and turf, a black rice or noodles and artichokes? If you can’t stomach the food, and are looking for a bit of “the hair of the dog,” enjoy a nice Riesling wine. FYI: none of the wines cost more than 23 euros. Our recommendations: the arroz de senorito, the giant ravioli with spinach, or the zucchini and cheese.
Another virtue of this snack bar is its ability to accommodate a respectable number of diners without reservations. You could wait fifteen minutes or more, depending on the time, but sit in the sand with a beer in hand and watch the waves crash. You will be eating before you know it.
